Broken sea

I gaze out upon the sea and I feel transfixed in its limitless nature.  The ocean returns the gaze back at me, reflecting my own true self in the distance.  Lone vultures circle in the rain and wind, thrive on the imperturbable moment of the South Brazil winter.  The sea hawk with white tipped wings soars higher yet, drifting in and out of the dark clouds, riding the currents, trusting the atmosphere. 

Deep beneath my thoughts a stillness awaits, protected from the desires and the needs, a soft embrace is my welcoming the peace. 

The teachings of Kofi, my Iyengar Yoga guru, speak of an ancient knowledge.  From Santa Cruz back to the source in India.  On my mat I find the rhythm of the sea.  My breath moves in, and the waves move out, channeling an energy from the distance.  The distance is what I seek.  A thread of peace within the outstretched horizon, never-ending, imprinted in my iris.  Tomorrow I will fly again, the journey across the seven seas. The planet seems too accessible for a lone human.  The universe knows the distance never ends, “infinite” is what the Vedec sages taught.  My own inner Guru absorbs these ancient truths.  

My journey covers five continents in the span of thirty-seven days.  Friends await at airports, and hotels greet me by name.  Yet high above the earth I find solitude among the clouds.  Jet engines silencing the noise.  My stomach fills with flutters of emotion, knowing I will leave her for a time.  Soon to return to her and her loving embrace, an embrace as Infinite as the dark and distant open sea.  

Meditation takes me deeper, takes me…closer.   Desires strip away and nothing is left but true awareness.  I reflect my light and love back into the universe.  My spine heals, in its wisdom, the body knows the path towards evolution.  As it was before, I once again find my welcoming home in the sea.

Traveling with the Hawk that circles far above, riding the wise currents of the wind, trust we will find ourselves again.
